San Valentino of Umbria
Like most people, not everyone knows that San Valentino (Saint Valentine) is from Umbria.
Valentino gave help to lovers to get married in secret when the law or the families did not want them to form a family. When his defiance for "the sake of love" was uncovered he was imprisoned and sentenced to death.
Today in the city of Terni, south of Umbria, there is Basilica which bears his name. It is the site of pilgrimage for many, a destination for couples from all over the world. A testament to the power of love.
